I had never heard of sandboarding before going to Peru, but it’s the best thing to do! So quirky. It’s like snowboarding but without the cold, wet and painful landings!

There is a gorgeous desert oasis near Ica called Huacachina, and it has the biggest sand dunes I’ve ever seen. You have to walk up the dunes (not easy!) and then can board back down to the hostels. The hostels lend out the boards, and dune buggies - although they’re quite damaging to the desert.

There are some other places to sandboard when travelling South America but this is the original and best. Only problem is I’m still finding sand in everything a month later! It gets everywhere.
