Le Refuge des Fondues, Paris

It’s no secret that Paris’ masses enjoy their wine. The outrage is the tax on serving it in glasses. But the owner of Le Refuge des Fondues gets around this little problem by serving wine in baby bottles. And what better to serve this teat-topped beverage than with traditional French fare: Fondue.

Dinner takes a formule approach, so it’s either hot, gooey cheese, with cubes of bread for dipping; or bite-sized pieces of meat, which you skewer and fry yourself in a vat of hot oil (be careful!).

It’s served on no frills wooden tables and benches, all packed in together like old friends.

For those worried about their baby bottle technique, have no fear: A generous hole cut in the top means easier, and quicker, drinking. There’s no escape for teetotallers either, as even soft drinks are served in this fashion. And you can further indulge your inner child by adding to the graffiti on the restaurant’s walls.
