Willard Wigan’s micro-sculpture, Liverpool

Fitting one camel through the eye of a needle sounds hard enough. Imagine if one could fit nine camels within the eye of a normal-sized needle?

Willard Wigan is an exceptional artist who manages to fit whole sculptures on pin heads and within needles’ eyes. Using a brush made from fly hair and a tiny diamond knife, Willard sculpts sand grains, dust grains, spider’s webs and much more into microscopic celebrities, animals, the Statue of Liberty and sometimes whole landscapes or scenes.

For a bargain £3, you can peer into a microscope and admire Willard’s creations at the Hard Days Night Gallery in Liverpool until March 2010. It’s a quirky must see.
