Quirky England: Kilpeck Church
Outlandishly carved corbels ring one of the English countryside’s quirkiest gems, 12th-century Kilpeck Church.
They range from a passionate couple to toon-like creatures and an infamous spread-legged sheila-na-gig (Celtic fertility figure) that’s guaranteed to raise a snigger, gasp or squeak of indignation.
The church itself has barely changed in the 800 years since it was built, and makes a worthwhile diversion from nearby Hereford. Tiny Kilpeck is a mile south off the A465.
