Piraña fishing, Brazil
Ever fancied fishing for bloodthirsty piranas? Well you can do just that in the rivers of South America, particularly in the Pantanal region of south-west Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay.
As the world’s largest freshwater wetland, the Pantanal is an area of outstanding natural beauty where most tourists come to catch a glimpse of the otters, caiman crocodiles or birdlife.
But you can also do something a little more quirky. All it requires is a basic fishing line and some cheap meat. Pull up a chair and watch the piranas go for the bait within seconds. The little critters are edible, but unfortunately pirana isn’t the tastiest of fish. It’s tough and bitter, so its best to throw them back into the water for the crocs to have a go.
Happy fishing!
