Nutshell pub, England

NutshellPub_FranklinHunting

Knocking back a drink is a risky business in this pint-sized pub. You never know what – or who – else you’ll be knocking in the process.

This is because the Nutshell, found in Bury St Edmunds, is Britain’s smallest pub according to the Guinness Book of Records. Only a handful of punters can rub elbows in here with any comfort.

Despite its diminutive dimensions, all of 4.6m by 2.1m, the timber-framed taproom attracts a disproportionately healthy stream of visitors. It has a knickknack-covered interior, and is home to the ‘world’s smallest dartboard’ and a micro-copy of The Times.

Just try not to let the pet mummified cat put you off your pint. This sorry moggy was found during renovations, having been bricked up to die during building to ward off bad spirits.
