To see for yourself whether water really does go down the plughole the other way in the opposite hemisphere, be sure to visit the Museo de Sitio Intiñan in Ecuador.
Here, just outside the capital city of Quito, you can balance an egg on a nail, walk on the equator line, and witness the infamous plughole test, which is conducted using a portable steel basin.
Museo de Sitio Intiñan is also not only an equatorial marker, but home to a display of Amazonian animals in formaldehyde, an 1875 Andean house and a preserved Shuar shrunken head.
And, for those interested in learning about naked Amazonian tribes, there’s a replica of a typical palm-leaf dwelling, and a life size sculpture of a man wearing only a thin leather thong to hold up his penis.
