Britain’s smallest house, Wales

BritainSmallestHouse_JKtheUnwise

We’ve all heard of two up, two down houses, but have you ever heard of a one up, one down? That is, bedroom up and a sitting room down. With no kitchen or bathroom, occupants of this tiny abode in Conwy cooked on the fire and used an outside loo.

A lady in traditional welsh dress will take the small entrance fee. If you call for visitor details, she may answer with ’3484′ as if she lives there.

The last occupant Robert Jones actually left in 1900. He was a 6ft 3 fisherman who couldn’t stand up straight inside.

You too may find yourself crouching and tucking in your elbows, especially when you go upstairs. ‘Up’ being through a narrow hatch and ‘stairs’ being a wooden ladder.

One at a time please.
