Zookeeper for a day, England

Animal lovers will adore this experience in southeast England.

For a fee, visitors can don the wellies, the shovel and the tranquillizer gun (OK, maybe not the latter) and swagger into the cages of big cats, crocodiles or monkeys to go about a zookeeper’s daily chores.

The Paradise Wildlife Park in Hertfordshire runs day programmes that include feeding the animals, clearing out their cages, petting, lunch and gift bags to take away.

Insurance is included – a comforting thought when you’re caring for leopards!

No, this is not a tribute to unwanted email. It’s a celebration of everybody’s favourite canned meat – Spam. Well, OK maybe not everybody’s.

Bedding down in an old gaol cell may not be the height of luxury, but at least you can unlock the door without the help of a guard.

In any normal race, crashing into your competitors would be a bad thing. But not in the ‘bumps’ rowing regattas of Oxford and Cambridge.
