The moto-railway, Colombia

Train delays getting you down? No problem. The villagers of San Cipriano, Colombia, have come up with the answer: bolt a trolley to a motorbike, plonk it on the tracks and call it a train.

Made by sticking the front wheel of a motorbike atop a makeshift wooden trolley and leaving the back wheel to trail alongside to provide locomotion, these ingenious contraptions are now the sole means of transport to the remote jungle community of San Cipriano.

The highlight of the journey is coming head to head with another ‘train’. According to the rules of the rails the party with the least cargo must disembark, unload and bundle their trolley and all its contents into the bushes to allow the other one past.
