Snow segways, Austria

Forget snow shoe walks and cross country ski treks, the only way to explore the winter wilderness this season is on a segway.

Prompted by the invention of the cross country segway which allows riders to cover steeper terrain, the Austrian ski resort of Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis introduced these futuristic scooters last winter.

Equipped with a helmet and back protector, you are first required to complete an obstacle course and then, as if this doesn’t sound daunting enough, you are set free to explore the forests and open country of the Austrian outback.

Thankfully you are accompanied by a guide, whose knowledge of the mountain should stop you from venturing into the path of any downhill skiers, leaving you free to enjoy the sights and sounds of the snowy countryside.
