There are several places around the world where you can hop on the saddled back of an ostrich and go for a ride, surreal as that may sound. Hon Tre Island, near Nha Trang City in Vietnam, is one of them.
The ostrich farm here was set up over a decade ago, but only started allowing tourists ostrich rides over the past few years.
The ungainly creatures reach almost 3m in height and 150kg in weight, with incredibly powerful legs. Once saddled up, riders grip the bird with their thighs and saddle as they bounce around the island. It does not harm the bird provided its rider is small and light, and does not race it hard, but do try to be as gentle as possible.
