Oasis outdoor pool, London

Hidden within a council estate in Covent Garden, this unlikely open air pool is heated all year round and positively steams with warmth during the winter.

No need to brave the (literally) freezing waters of London’s unheated lidos, here you only need face the dash to the pool.

The showers often blow hot and cold (unintentionally) just to add to the quirkiness and the changing rooms are a bit grotty but it’s cheap and the staff, cheerful.

Swimming in the dark seems almost magical amongst steam and lights and through the summer, the place is alive with swimmers and sunbathers.

Anyone can turn up for a swim in the outdoor and indoor pools. Oasis Sports Centre is on Endell Street, and opens daily except Christmas and Boxing Day.
