Retro camper vans, England

For a holiday reeking of childhood nostalgia and hippie chic, hire a 1960s-style VW camper van to tour the English countryside.

There can be few vehicles that instantly put you in a happy, chilled-out mood – perfect for holidaying with family or friends – like a retro VW. And a handful of companies now specialise in hiring out the modern equivalent, with 60s decoration.

Our favourite is Snail Trail, which operates from a location 30 miles north of London. They have a fleet of flower-power vans, each with a distinct personality and 60s-inspired name to match – from Prudence and Betty to Dot and Pearl.
